Project Learning - Summer 2011



We are all very excited about the project learning program this summer!

The gals wanna do a topic on science. We went through several issues together, and finally we've decided on two.

1. Euthanasia
2. Human Cloning/Genetic Engineering

Very interesting and controversial topics indeed, good pick, girls!

    Title: Reflection Jounal (Karena)
    Before i have this lesson in library, i feel very excited. We had to find the books about "Euthanasia", help us to know more this topic.
    When Deon and i were finding this books, we felt not very comfortable because we just find "ONE"! Anyway, i think this is a great experience, and i hope it can be my life"s habbit.

    I think find the information in the book is more difficult than find the information in the internet. This experience has very good and it was my first time to have my own library card.

    I think this trip was interesting because I did not try this before. I always do some project. I only use the computer to do the project so this was the first time I went to the library to do the project. Finally, I will do the project in the library in the future because I think do the project from the library is very useful.

    After I had read the chapter about euthanasia and I think this way to end the life is good for the people who have incurable diseases and they don't want to get pain and suffering anymore.

    in this lesson, i learn more about Euthanasia and it is about somebody want to dieand use this method to end their life.....so i think it is very funny and interesting.Last,i hope i can read more this topic more.

    I'm glad that the girls appreciated the library and how it is useful for learning and studying a subject or topic. We found that our local library had some very good collection children's English books, in all sorts of subjects, not just fictions.

    Some of us experienced difficulties finding more books on the Euthanasia subject. I pointed out to them that it was interesting why certain subjects have more books and some have less.

    I hope the girls will grow their habits in going to the library, not just for leisure kind of reading, but to read to learn new things.

    Euthanasia is actually a rather serious topic because it touches upon one of the least discussed subject -death. Among our young people, especially in the Chinese culture, it could be seen as a taboo.

    The girls are certainly interested in the topic. And the drawings of their ideas of death is very telling about how they view life as a whole. I hope they can get over the initial excitement though, and start to think more seriously and deeply about the issue. It is about making an extremely difficult and important decision and it requires a thorough examination of real cases.

    This is also true for the human cloning topic. We seemed to be impressed and amazed by the fact that we could actually clone humans. But underneath the excitement of these scientific and technological discoveries, more serious real life issues are at stake. Sometimes, we humans are able to do many things because we are very intelligent, but does that mean we have to do them simply because we could?

    I think i know more about cloning and euthanasia.We also talking about death,i think this is very funny.......when i am joining this talk,i felt very enjoy.
    Finally, i am very excited about the next class because we will see a movie !!

    I know more about cloning and euthanasia in the last lesson. I could find a subject of the project with Rita.
    Finally, I will see a movie in the next lesson and the movie is about cloning so I think this movie can help me a lot to do the project.

    In this lesson,we had watched the movie about cloning.I think it was very amazing,because of the valid and invalid....the main character wants to be look like a designed human,he thinks all the method to help himself and don't let the other to know his secret...........and i like this movie very much!!!

    Topic: Valid? Invalid?
    I think the meaning of this two words have change and the people of the future think design babies is a only way to have a normal baby, but the baby do not have any design, the people will think this human is not accept. This movie just enlarge the problems of discriminates and let people more pay attention about discriminate.

    I watched a film in the last lesson. It was so amazing. It can tell me about what's different from the valid and invalid. Miss nicol gave us a question so I went home to think about this question. This question is if I be a mother in the future, I will chose the valid or invalid? So I really think this question after I went home.

    After i watched this movie ,i think the people who choose euthanasiia to end their life is because they don't want to continue to have the difficult life or like the main character Ramon, he thinks that he has no dignity in his life,have no value to enjoy ..............so i think it is a personal choose
